Daniel 'Zev' Harris - surrealist composition
Surrealist composition by Daniel ‘Zev’ Harris.
Zev, meaning ‘wolf’ in Hungarian, was the name the artist chose for himself in 1953. He was born Daniel Harris. He studied at the Masters Institute of the Roerich Museum in Hungary, in New York City at the National Academy of Design, and at New York University. He later held a teaching position at New York University for two years. Harris was invited to exhibit in the Abstract & Surrealist Art in America exhibition at the San Francisco Museum of Art in 1944, and had a one-man show there in 1947.
Harris later moved to Paris, then Spain, and he finished his life in Rome, Italy.
This work dates from the 1950s, and is a mixed media on paper.
It measures 9 x 12 inches sight size, and 16.75 x 19.25 x 1 inches overall.
The work is signed by the artist on the backing, which we have chosen to cover for framing aesthetics. (See images)
From the estate of a northern California art dealer.
This is a great example of the artist’s playful yet serious nature when creating works of art.
The work is signed by the artist on the back paper, which we chose to cover when reframing the work, for aesthetics. We have provided an image of the signature, taken before reframing.
