Neil Boyle - Portrait of a Native American Woman - Owns Different Horses
A striking portrait of a native American woman, Owns Different Horses, by artist James Neil Boyle.
Neil (James Neil) Boyle, grew up in Indian Country. His father was an honorary Chief of the Blood of Peigan tribes of Canada’s Blackfoot Confederacy, and passed down a knowledge of Native American history that colors Boyle’s paintings with a unique authenticity. Born in Alberta, Canada, Boyle studied art at the Banff School of Fine Arts, and Chouinard Art Institute. He later taught for fifteen years at the California Art Institute. He created illustrations for popular magazines and calendars, and imagery of notable people, and album covers for musicians such as Glenn Miller and Henry Mancini. Portraiture was always his strong suit.
A member of numerous prestigious painting groups, including being a Master Signature member of the Oil Painters of America, Boyle often signed his paintings with the tongue in cheek acronym “BSWCA” which stood for Big Shot West Coast Artist.
