Robert Sperry - Large sculptural vessel
A large b\ulbous horned vase formed studio pottery vessel by American ceramicist Robert Sperry.
Sperry is an important figure in the American studio craft movement. He was born in Bushnell, Illinois, and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Saskatchewan, a Bachelors of Fine Arts degree in 1953 at the Art Institute of Chicago, and an Masters of Fine Arts in 1955 at the University of Washington. He studied with other important figures at the Archie Bray Foundation in Montana, including Peter Voulkos and Rudy Autio. Sperry was on the faculty of the University of Washington from 1955 until his retirement in 1982, serving as the head of the ceramics department for twenty-two years.
This work is a partially glazed stoneware vessel. It measures 14 x 16 x 15 inches overall.
The condition is excellent. There is one very small drill hole that has been professionally repaired.
Signed on the bottom of the vessel.
